Poems

Hold Fast the Moment, Please

In quiet peacefulness
time halts for me.
Here under the tree
I am free to be.

Leaves gently wave, "Hello,"
then go about their business
of feeding the hungry:
birds and bees, bugs and butterflies.

The water's surface
holds quite still,
not allowing the creatures underneath
to disturb my serenity.

Not a cloud dares to move,
posing for my mental pictures; how nice
no frog or lizard leap or scatter
out of respect for my reverent moment.

I sit . . . and be
until the wind can no longer
hold its breath
and time goes on again.

NY State Road Trip

Rolling hills

With speckled farms

A vast outreaching scene

Carved out slate

For roads to snake;

Small cities squished between

Antique homes

Some wood, some stone

With porches smiling, "Hi."

Outstretched brown limbs

Tinged green with buds

Tan squares of wheat fields, dry

Cornfields;

Goats and cows out grazing

Are always very near

Apples, berries

Pumpkins, grapes

All grow abundant here.

Colorful bark on

Trees, line cliffs

Ash, Maple, Oak and Pine

Forests, woods,

Rock and streams

An ever-present find.
